Anna Wais

Anna Wais, 88, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026. Born on August 7, 1937, in Florynka, Poland, Anna lived a life rooted in faith, family, tradition, and devotion to those she loved most. Anna spent her early years in Florynka before relocating to Nowa Sól, Poland, in 1947. In 1989, she emigrated to the United States in search of a better future for her family, eventually making her home in Elmwood Park and Garfield, New Jersey. Through hard work, perseverance, and unwavering faith, she built a beautiful life centered around love and togetherness. A deeply devoted Catholic, Anna was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Passaic, where she found great joy as a member of the church choir. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and was reflected in her kindness, generosity, and compassion toward others. Anna had a vibrant spirit and a deep appreciation for Polish culture and tradition. She loved singing, dancing, and praying, and was once a proud folk dancer whose joyful energy brought smiles to everyone around her. She cherished family gatherings, celebrations, and the simple moments spent surrounded by those she loved. After retiring, Anna found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with her dear friends over coffee at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Botany Village, where laughter, conversation, and friendship filled many cherished afternoons. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, the late Zdzislaw Wais; her parents, Zachariusz Smalec and Miroslawa Habura (nee Worhacz); and her sister, the late Janina Jasyk. Anna is survived by her loving sons, Krzysztof Wais and his wife, Jadwiga, and Zbigniew Wais and his wife, Dorota. She was the cherished grandmother of Joanna, Patryk, Barbara, Arkadiusz, and Tomasz, and the proud great-grandmother of Krzysztof, Mateusz, Milosz, and Adam. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Olga Habura, Krystyna Hubkowski and her husband, Christopher, Jan Habura, and Bogdan Habura and his wife, Helen, along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure her memory. Anna will be remembered for her gentle heart, steadfast faith, beautiful voice, and the love she gave so freely to everyone blessed to know her. Her memory will live on in the prayers, songs, and traditions she passed down through generations.
