Donald Joseph Majerscak

Donald J. Majerscak, 85, of Garfield, passed away at home on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Born in Passaic, NJ, on January 21, 1930, to Joseph and Anna Majerscak. He lived in Saddle Brook prior to moving to Garfield. Donald was a graduate of Garfield High School. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army in the Korean War as Sergeant First Class, Heavy Tank Co. 15th Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, earning the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. He married his sweetheart, Barbara Hartmann, in 1951. Prior to teaching, he worked at the Robinson- Golluber Company, while earning his teaching degree at Montclair State College. He later earned a Masters in Business Administration, at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Donald taught at Clifford J Scott High School, in East Orange, where he was the Department Head of Business Education, and also coached football. He also served on the Board of Education in Garfield. In early 1970â€™s, he moved from Clifford Scott, to the position of Vice Principal at Garfield High School, where he dedicated many years as an administrator, and as coach of football and softball, prior to his retirement in 1992. Donald also was a founding member of the Garfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka, RC Church, and served as a past Parish Council President. His humble guidance and kind spirit touched everyone he met, and he was truly an inspiration to all. Donald is predeceased by his wife Barbara, and is survived by his beloved daughters, Barbara Donahue and her husband Thomas of Apex, NC, and Diane McQuade and her husband Jim, of Readington, NJ. Loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Erin, Alec, and Meghan. Dear brother of Joseph Majerscak of Riverdale, and Kenneth, and Nora Majerscak of Rutherford, and the late William Majerscak, brother-in-law of the Late John J. Hartmann, Jr. ,Louis and Theodora (Hartmann) Garbus , and Evelyn Majerscak and many cherished nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the years of care by staff and doctors at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, especially Dr. John Pantazopoulos. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka RC Church, or Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org . Relatives and friends are invited to visit Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral service is Wednesday, 9:30 am from the Kamienski Funeral home, and 10 am at St Stanislaus Kostka RC Church, Garfield. Interment Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
