Maria Kalata Szwarc, 87, of Garfield, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Monday, October 20, 2014. Maria was born in Lapsze Wyzne, Poland, and came to the United States in 1981, settling in Garfield, where she has lived the past 33 years. Prior to her retirement in 1991, Maria was a self employed home health care aide. Previously she worked as a maid for the Motor Lodge Motel in Elmwood Park. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Garfield, and was also a member of its Polish Rosary Society. Maria was the beoved wife of the late Franciszek Szwarc, devoted mother of Ryszard Szwarc, and his wife Maria, of Garfield, Jozef Szwarc of Garfield, Frank Szwarc, and his wife Iwona, of Franklin Lakes, Albina "Ala" Jakobik of Wallington, and the late Edward Szwarc, loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, loving sister of Jozef, Jan, and Andrzej Kalata, all in Poland, and Celina Biziak in Elmwood Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Maria Szwarc would be appreciated.
