Joseph "Joey The Fonz" Theresa

Joseph Theresa, affectionately known to family and friends as "Joey the Fonz," passed away peacefully from natural causes on June 16, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on April 28, 1965, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Joey spent his early years in the city he loved before later making his home in Garfield, New Jersey, where he settled in 2015. Joey was a remarkable individual whose warm smile, vibrant personality, and love for life touched everyone who knew him. A gifted athlete, he proudly participated in the Special Olympics, earning numerous gold medals, trophies, and accolades throughout his life. His accomplishments brought him tremendous pride and served as an inspiration to those around him. Music was one of Joey's greatest passions. In his younger years, he played the tambourine in his brother's band, Topsoil, and later became the lighting technician for the David Tee Band. He took great pride in his role helping create memorable performances and enjoyed being part of the local music community. Joey also enjoyed playing the drums, singing, and sharing his enthusiasm for music with family and friends. Joey was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 168 in Hoboken during his youth and carried with him the values of friendship, loyalty, and service throughout his life. He loved bowling, was known for his impressive pool-playing skills—even playing one-handed at times—and cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. Joey was predeceased by his beloved parents, Dominick Theresa and Beatrice "Hon" (Russo) Theresa, as well as his grandfather, the late Marty Theresa, who was known for singing alongside Frank Sinatra as a member of the Hoboken Four. He leaves behind his loving brothers: Martin Theresa and his wife, Maria, and their children, Martin and Michael; Dominick Theresa, his son Nicholas, and Nicholas' mother, Mona; and David Theresa. Joey is also survived by many loving cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and infectious spirit. Above all else, Joey treasured his family. He found joy in simple moments spent together, and his loving nature, gentle heart, and unwavering loyalty will be remembered forever. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the happiness he brought to so many will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
